Morae Global and Phoenix Business Solutions hosted a breakfast briefing on July 11 at Searcys at The Gherkin in London that gathered General Counsel, CIOs, litigation heads and law firm leaders from the UK and globally. The briefing followed Morae Global’s recent acquisition of professional services information specialist Phoenix Business Solutions and highlighted opportunities for additional growth, efficiency, digital transformation, enhanced legal operations and improved eDiscovery.
Moderated by Shahzad Bashir, Morae Global President & Chief Executive Officer; Mathew Crocker, President of Phoenix Business Solutions; James Neath, President of CLUTCH Information Management & Discovery; and Joy Saphla, President of Morae Legal, the event focused on combining expertise and technology to execute digital transformations and collaborative vision. Morae Global Director Magnus Becher was also in attendance as participants discussed the state of the industry and shared industry challenges in interactive sessions.
With more than three decades of experience in legal and financial consulting services, Bashir shared Morae Global’s history as a pioneer in the application of business to law and how Morae Global’s market insight brings together legal, compliance and professional services providers to capitalize on fundamental change in the legal services supply chain. Bashir also highlighted how the recent acquisition of Phoenix Business Solutions by Morae Global strengthens its strategic direction and capabilities around artificial intelligence and cloud-based technology in order to help its clients better collaborate through the use of technology, data and information management.

Saphla and Pearson SVP/Associate General Counsel Robert Mignanelli (via video) presented a case study of Pearson legal department’s transformation from a Center of Excellence (COE)” to a world-class Transaction Service Center (TSC)” addressing the need for change and the journey to a new paradigm for delivery and management of transactional legal services through effective use of tools, resources, processes and standards. They also discussed Pearson’s evolution from white-glove business support to a legal service request “legal department front door,” showcasing why and how the Pearson legal department has redefined itself and how it supports and executes contract work.
“Joy’s case study was a case in point for taking the plunge and trusting an organization to do right by the corporate end client. Pearson did exactly that and generated fantastic results, including better quality, a more relaxed legal department—as opposed to the white-glove and always available model—and overall substantial cost savings,” Becher says.

In the final portion of the presentation, Crocker illustrated how to close the contract life cycle and how information in organizations can deliver valuable business intelligence.
